Facebook's still not saying exactly when an overhaul of its user profiles will occur - the most recent official statement just includes the word "soon." But there are some indications that "soon" might almost equal a hold-your-breath length of time. Yesterday, Facebook held a small press conference to discuss the profile redesign. Then, although previous announcements about the matter have mostly shown up on the Facebook Developers blog, a product manager put a post on the more user-oriented Facebook Blog.

More evidence: a Facebook outage apparently occurred last night, and although those accustomed to Twitter might shrug off this sort of thing, it's not at all common for the older social network.

Finally, to either dodge media attention or ensure there's less stress on a new system, companies have often made important announcements and changes close to the weekend. It looks like Facebook is heading in this direction.
